Ukrainian officials and international leaders called for stronger air-defence support, sanctions, and broader international pressure on Russia.

Ce qui s’est passé

On the night of 28 and the morning of 29 October, Ukrainian reports initially recorded nearly 20 drone attacks on three districts of Dnipropetrovsk region. The total was later updated to more than 40 attacks with drones and artillery across four districts. Four reactive drones were launched toward the region, and air-defence forces shot down three.

On 29 October, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of several reactive drones threatening Dnipro between 13:30 and 14:00. One hit a platform at the railway station where a suburban electric train and train № 866 “Dnipro–Zaporijjia” were present. The attack killed 14 people and injured either 13 or 14. Among those in severe condition were two men aged 40 and 53, a 26-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy. Electricity interruptions were reported in parts of Dnipro.

In Dnipro, another attack damaged an industrial enterprise, caused a fire and injured a 35-year-old man, who was hospitalized. Pavlohrad reported damage to a shop, a private house, a vehicle and infrastructure. A 40-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl were injured and were to receive outpatient treatment. In the Nikopol district, attacks affected Nikopol, Marhanetska, Chervonohorivska and Myrovska communities, damaging administrative buildings, infrastructure, an apartment building and an agricultural building. In the Synelnykiv district, attacks affected Petropavlivska and Pokrovska communities; a truck was damaged, a fire broke out, and two men aged 52 and 77 were hospitalized in moderate condition.

Almost immediately after the Dnipro strike, Russian forces attacked central Chernihiv. Two 15-year-old girls were killed and 23 people were injured, including four children aged 10 months, 10, 16 and 17. Fires broke out in shops and cars burned. The overall toll reported for the attacks on Dnipropetrovsk region on 29 October was 14 deaths and 18 injuries.

Ce qu’en disent les sources ukrainiennes

Ukrainian coverage focused on the local consequences of the attacks: deaths and injuries, fires, damaged homes and infrastructure, electricity disruptions and the condition of hospitalized patients. It also highlighted calls by Ukrainian officials to urgently strengthen air defences and provide missiles and resources for domestic air-defence systems, alongside reactions from Estonia, Latvia and France.

Ce qu’en disent les sources internationales

International reporting placed the casualties in Dnipropetrovsk within a wider series of Russian strikes and stressed the European Union’s call for greater pressure on Russia and its allies. Estonia’s and Latvia’s foreign ministers backed stronger sanctions and air-defence support, while France’s president expressed solidarity with Ukraine.
